Accessory channels show iPhone Duo. Is Ultra only an internal name?
Leaker Majin Bu says the retail name will not be iPhone Ultra. MacRumors notes there is still no hard proof. It reads as a last-week naming fight.
For half a year, coverage defaulted to iPhone Ultra. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has said many people inside Apple use that name. That is not the same as the word on the box.
Around Sept 7, Majin Bu said the version he heard was iPhone Duo, not Ultra. Screenshots of accessory lists using Duo circulated the same day. MacRumors followed with a piece titled iPhone Duo? and was explicit: there is no proof Apple will use it, but Duo is not invented from nothing. Apple has used PowerBook Duo and MagSafe Duo Charger. Dual screens make the word plausible.
The counter is also fair. Microsoft shipped Surface Duo. Intel had Core Duo. Whether Apple wants that semantic field is still open. The file's call: naming stays disputed. Listing Ultra, Duo, and Fold side by side is more honest than betting on one.
