Foldable development was split into four jobs: durability, hinge, flexible cover glass, and under-display camera. The camera stopped being mandatory. The hinge landed on titanium and aluminum with Liquidmetal parts. Cover glass is with Corning.
Crease is where buyers get disappointed. Supply chain once floated fully creaseless. Gurman pulled that back: the crease remains, look and feel close to Samsung's newest foldables, not zero. For a file, that is more checkable than a creaseless revolution.
About 4.5 mm open, about 9 mm closed. Thinner means the hinge has to solve structure, routing, and bend radius at once. Apple thinks its build will sit at the top of the foldable class, and also admits it will still be less tough than a slab iPhone.
