Start price revised from $1,999 toward about $2,199. Top configs may near $3,000

Gurman says memory inflation pushed the foldable over the $2,000 line. Apple once wanted the iPhone X trick at $1,999. $2,199 is now more likely.

Early in development, Apple hoped to start the foldable at $1,999, parked just under the $2,000 line, repeating the 2017 iPhone X move at $999. After a global memory spike, internal talk moved the start price to about $2,199. Some high-capacity configs may approach $3,000.

Gurman told Tom's Guide he is still in the "above $2,000" camp. The reason is concrete: iPhone Pro at 2TB already touches that range, so a foldable sitting higher is not a shock. Apple also saw customers already paying close to $2,000 for storage upgrades. That made a premium foldable internally viable.

The useful reading is the structure, not one integer. Entry storage will be expensive. The top SKU will be very expensive. Until Apple speaks, treat $1,999, $2,199, and $2,500 as one corridor, not competing leaks.
